GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 3rd, and throughout the year.
This year, Fieldmouse Press, a new, non-profit comics publishing company, is partnering with the GivingTuesday movement in order to further its plans for the coming year.
The aim of Fieldmouse Press is to emphasize its four pillars of “comics, critique, community, and collaboration” by presenting challenging, unique, and diverse material to as wide an audience as possible. Our aim is to create a safe place to explore the comics arts where cartoonists and critics can engage the artform together. As a part of this aim, we plan to publish quality comics criticism, interviews, features, advocacy for the form, and new comics for the web.
Of the press’s founding, Secretary/Treasurer Alex Hoffman said, “As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our goal is to serve this community that we love and do something we think hasn’t been possible before now. And as a nonprofit organization, we can take chances that other publishers haven’t.”
Being upfront with our financial plans, costs, and objectives is important to us. We want to be transparent and open about our finances. Part of this is due to the requirements of being a charitable organization in the United States. But more importantly, we want the community to understand how their donations are being used.
While we plan to fund much of the work of Fieldmouse Press with grants, we are also seeking the assistance of institutional & individual donors. We know that our efforts to broaden the critical conversation around the comics arts and shine light on the medium won’t be successful unless we have the support of our community.
