Fieldmouse Press @ SPX

On September 14th & 15th, representatives from Fieldmouse Press will head to the annual Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda, Maryland. The Small Press Expo is the United States’ premier independent comics, cartooning, and graphic novels comic arts festival, and a great place to get to know about us and the new press. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Daniel Elkin, Alex Hoffman, and Rob Clough will all be on hand to answer questions. We welcome any requests for interviews or additional information. Please contact us at

Additionally, the three of us will be participating in a variety of panels over the weekend:

Blurring The Lines in Fantasy Fiction
White Flint Auditorium, Saturday September 14th, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM EST

Comics is an ideal medium for fantasy because of the wide array of visual and narrative options available. Things get even more interesting when cartoonists mix and mash different genres, or when they use poetic, surreal, or dense visual strategies to tell their stories. Critic Alex Hoffman (Sequential State) will discuss the stylistic choices of Yann Kebbi (The Structure Is Rotten, Comrade), Rune Ryberg (Gigant), Ida Rørholm Davidsen (Lonely Journey), Anne Simon (The Empress Cixtisis), and Molly Mendoza (Skip).

White Flint Auditorium, Sunday September 15th, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EST

Join critics Alex Hoffman (Sequential State), Daniel Elkin (Your Chicken Enemy), Rob Clough (High-Low), and Jules Bakes for a live version of their podcast Enemies Of The State. In every episode, they take a deep dive into a single book. The Enemies will be discussing the Ignatz Award-nominated Girl Town and will be joined by the artist, Casey Nowak.

International Trends in Small Press Publishing
White Flint Auditorium, Sunday September 15th, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST

Publishing and distribution remain small press comics’ thorniest issues, but the passion and vision of small press publishers continue to blaze new trails and provide opportunities for artists around the world. Join an international line-up of publishers and editors including Paw Krogsbek Mathiasen (Fahrenheit), Pernille Arvedsen (Cobolt), Annie Koyama (Koyama Press), Carta Monir (Diskette Press), and Marc Pearson (Glom Press) as they discuss strategies, obstacles, and their vision for small press comics. Critic Rob Clough (High-Low) will moderate.

We look forward to seeing you this year at SPX!

Note: Rob Clough, At-Large Board Member of Fieldmouse Press, is the programming coordinator for the Small Press Expo.
